PE Department Thank You and Goodbyes
It has been another year in the PE Department and we would like to thank all of the pupils for their efforts because they really do work hard and produce some fantastic results. This would not be possible if we did not have the support from the parents/guardians at home and for this support we are sincerely grateful. We would like to thank the coaches that come in to inspire the pupils with their sports and we would like to thank the following:#

  • Danny Hammett, Jake Brooks and Rob Newton from Dorset Cricket.
  • Mark Lever from Dorset Badminton.
  • Chris Biddle from Ferndown Tennis Club.
  • Nick Elbourne from Wimborne Rugby Club.
  • Kirk Pitman from Wessex Volleyball.
  • Peter Impett from Wimborne Athletics.

It goes without saying we shall miss the Year 8 pupils and the other pupils that leave us and we are grateful for the sporting attitude they have displayed in their PE here at Ferndown Middle;  wish them every future sporting success and hope that we have set them on the pathway for glory.

Year 8 Sports Leaders
Our Sports Leaders have been an absolute pleasure to work with and the maturity, confidence and leadership they have displayed has been superb. They lead by example in the School Games Sports Day and officiated with assurance. They will be finishing off their duties by officiating the Ferndown First School’s Sports Day and we have every confidence their ability for this competition. We hope they will use some of the qualities they have acquired in their future.Sports LeadersYear 7 and 8 Athletics
The Year 7 & 8 pupils competed at Kings Park and I am delighted to say that we were one of the largest represented schools at the event. We had some brilliant results and some of these are listed below:

  • Lucy finishing fourth in the Year 7 800m.
  • Jack finishing fourth in the Year 8.

We are extremely proud of all the pupils that participated in the event and if any pupils would like to join any athletics clubs out of school then please come and speak to the PE Department.

T20 Cricket Trip
We took over 40 pupils to The Rose Bowl to watch the T20 match between Hampshire and Essex where Essex won in the last over. It was great seeing the pupils get into the spirit of the occasion by waving their 4 and 6 cards in the air; wearing their pink and yellow headwear; cheering extremely loudly and seeking the autographs of the cricketers on show. We hope that this has inspired the pupils to want to watch and participate in more cricket and if they need any information then please come to the PE Department for information. Finally we have been given some Southern Vipers T20 tickets for their T20 match at the end of July. They are the female team that play at The Rose Bowl and include Charlotte Edwards the former England Ladies Captain and who is a national legend. If any parents would like any tickets free of charge please can they send a letter to the PE Department requesting their amount and these will be distributed on a first come first served basis.

Sky Sports Living for Sport
On Monday afternoon our Sky Sports group invited year 4 students from Parley and Ferndown First Schools to a fun filled activities afternoon. Our visitors were given the opportunity to try everything from tennis, to cricket, to netball and really were a credit to their schools. A huge well done to our wonderful Sky Sports leaders for working so hard to organise and run the event, it was a huge success. A special mention must go to Charlotte for her impressive organisational skills. A wonderful afternoon.

Year 5 and 6 Cricket
Our Year 5 and 6 Boys played in the final of the cricket hardball plate final at the Delph in Broadstone. We played St Katharines and lost in a closely contested match. Our boys battled extremely well and Alex took two wickets in one over and William bowled extremely well. Super effort lads and be proud of your silver medal.Weekly Sports - 14.07.16 1
