London 2017

Posted on 10/06/2017

It was a beautiful day as we set off for London. The coach was modern and clean and everyone settled down for the journey. We knew that we were really in London as we spotted the London Eye.

We were dropped by Downing Street and walked the short distance up the road to Banqueting House which was our first visit. Banqueting House is probably most famous for where Charles I was executed. We saw the amazing painted ceiling by Sir Peter Paul Reubens’ which would have been the last thing Charles I would have seen as he stepped out onto the scaffolding to face his fate in 1649.

From the Banqueting House we took a short walk to St James’ park where we sat and had our packed lunch. It was then down under the streets of Whitehall to visit Churchill’s War Rooms where the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, conducted the planning for the Second World War. An amazing place and left as just it was at the end of the war.

We then had 20 minutes to drop off our cases at the Hotel in Russell Square before we were out again for our meal at Fire and Stone in Covent Garden.

The show this evening was Matilda. Wow! We even met Miss Trunchbull and Miss Honey at the end and many got autographs. It was a short walk back to our hotel and a well-deserved rest.

On the second day, another beautiful summers day, we were up early and having breakfast at 8am.

We arrived at the London Dungeons and were split into two groups. One group did a workshop about the Plague while the second group set off on their tour of the Dungeons……..It was funny, scary, dark and smelly but we had a great time.  The first group then took the tour while the second group did a drama workshop.

From the Dungeons we took a boat trip to the Tower of London. The trip took about 30 minutes and we had our packed lunch on the boat while we travelled up the Thames and looked at the famous landmarks. We had one hour ashore at the Tower of London before catching the boat back to Westminster.

From Westminster we walked across Horse Guards Parade and through Trafalgar Square and Piccadilly Circus to the Rainforest Café for our evening meal. It was a strange experience eating in a rainforest in the centre of London.

The show tonight was Aladdin. A truly magical show, and even though we were all tired there was no way we were going to sleep through this!

After Aladdin we walked back to our hotel and straight to bed!

It was a little more difficult getting up today! We were off to Legoland for the final day of our trip.

When we arrived we were put into two groups and given our time for the Lights, Camera, Action animation workshop. We were then able to visit all of the rides and attractions in the park. The weather was wonderful and there were no queues for any of the rides!

We met for lunch under a big tree in Miniature Land where we could see all the famous land marks of London made from Lego.

After a full day in Legoland we set off for home, tired but with many fantastic memories.

We did so much in just 42 hours!

Some quotes from the trip.

“Our room even had a telly, but we had no time to watch it”

“The whole trip was fantastic”

“We saw so much”

“The London Dungeon was terrifying and exhilarating, this was my favourite trip”

“We went on a water ride and I got soaked!”

“I know how I won’t lose my room key…….I will leave it in my room.”

“I think someone has been in my room while we were out…all my clothes, which were on the floor, have been put back into my case and my bed has been made!”
