Year 7 Girls Crowned PEDSSA Champions

Posted on 06/01/2017

Our Year 7 Girls played in the PEDSSA Indoor Football Competition at Canford School. We were drawn in a tough group with five other schools in our half of the draw. We started confidently beating St Michaels 3-1 and followed this up with a 6-0 victory against Cranborne. The girls were getting in their stride and continued by beating Purbeck 4-0 and Swanage 7-0. We slipped up losing 3-2 against Lytchett but qualified as group winners.

In the semi-final we went one goal down straight from kick off to a hard working Magna side. We soon regained composure and dominated in the second half and won 3-1. The girls at this stage were tiring rapidly and needed one last push against an unbeaten Broadstone. We looked fatigued  early on and went 1-0 down and the girls had to dig deep to prevent a second goal being conceded. In fact assured defending from Isabelle and fantastic goalkeeping from Leah meant that we did not have a mountain to climb. Hannah equalized with a superb long distance strike just before half time. The girls needed rallying and they really pushed all their energy levels to the limit. With the game destined for a penalty shoot out Hannah struck a fierce shot that nestled in the bottom left corner to put us 2-1 up. In fact this was the last kick of the day and I am delighted to announce that we are the PEDSSA Indoor Champions and will progress to the South West Finals later this year. All girls contributed throughout the day. Leah was excellent in goal making a number of saves; Isabelle was a dependable defender at all times; Tegan scored some great goals and showed super skills; Sydney worked tirelessly all day up front; Katie showed excellent skills and energy levels in her first ever matches for the school and Hannah lead by example scoring vital goals and making brave tackles. In fact all girls managed to score a goal at some stage and they thoroughly deserve their gold medals by finishing in first place out of the eleven schools. It goes without saying that I am ever so proud of them.
