Year 5 had a varied and exciting week, all based around our history topic of Ancient Greece.
It began with a dramatic day with Treehouse Theatre, led by the energetic Ben, where each group in turn played parts, acted scenes and learnt scripts. Then in the afternoon, each group performed to the rest “in the round”. To heighten the drama, we all spent the day in Greek costume – even the staff!
The week continued with interpreting Greek pots, followed by attempting to make our own using coils of clay. These were then painted in true Greek style. Some crumbled and broke – giving us the opportunity to be archaeologists trying to put them back together again.
Further events included food tasting (we nearly all hated the olives), cooking Stromboli with Chartwells and enjoying a great talk from Wessex Water about sustainability.
The pupils produced a great folder of work and had the opportunity to be very creative. They even wrote a Greek myth using terrifying monsters and marvellous heroes and heroines.
An excellent week, thoroughly enjoyed by us all.
