Year 6 Girls East Dorset Football Tournament
On Thursday 16th November we travelled to St Michaels Middle School to participate in the Year 6 girls East Dorset football tournament. The team demonstrated a fantastic team spirit and determination, working together to score several fantastic goals! It was a really close competition, with us fighting for one of the top positions. After a nail-biting wait to hear the final results we were awarded second place and are now through the Dorset County Finals!

A massive well done to all of the girls who participated; Lily, Aimee, Ellie, Macey, Ellie, Poppy, Molly, Abigail and Georgia.

Year 6 Boys County Cup v Allenbourn
You can tell the football season is in full swing when you see gloves, under armour and leggings being worn and on this cold evening we hosted our rivals Allenbourn. This match could have graced any cup final and the boys from both teams gave their all in an entertaining encounter. We soon took the lead when Reece forced a save from their goalkeeper and Holsten was alive to follow up quickly but square the ball to Reece who fired in. Allenbourn quickly responded with two quick goals and certainly had a little momentum. In a quick break away Reece was brought down for a penalty and he calmly placed the ball in to make the half time score 2-2. In the second half we started strongly and I was sure we would get a third and Reece completed his hat trick with another cool finish. Unfortunately we lost a little concentration and allowed our visitors to score again and like the girls match the previous night the score was 3-3 and extra time was drawing near. However I always thought we had the ability to score again and thankfully Josh produced a superb winner form 20 metres out where he fired a cannonball of a shot over their keeper to give us an impressive 4-3 victory. Excellent work lads in bitter cold conditions. What has impressed me with this group of boys is the sportsmanship and encouragement for each other. If these lads are able to keep this spirit they will have every opportunity in the sporting lives to succeed!

Year 7&8 Girls County Cup v Glenmoor
Oh the emotions of a football match! We hosted Glenmoor in the County Cup and it was a match of the highest quality and in my time of teaching girls football I have not seen many better. Some of the passing produced by Hannah, Tegan and Sydney were a joy to watch. In fact Tegan was on fire down the right wing beating her opponent time and time again with skill and flair. Our defence looked solid and it was only a matter of time we managed to score. Hannah scored a fantastic goal on the half tern beating their impressive goalkeeper. In the second half we missed a few chances but Megan somehow weaved her way through to toe poke home form a tight angle. Glenmoor were always a threat and they soon capitalised on a few mistakes and scored two quick goals to make it 2-2 and bring extra time. They scored a third and we only had minutes to go to equalise. Hannah was now playing all over the pitch, working tirelessly for her team mates. She actually managed to squeeze through the middle and calmly finish past their keeper who looked unbeatable at times. The dreaded penalty shootout loomed and unfortunately we lost this match on penalties. It was a hard defeat to take as the girls put in the performance of their lives against a very good team and not to sound disrespectful to our opponents I felt we deserved to go through to the next round. I said to them after it is all about playing in these types of matches to experience what sport is and I am sure the girls will take a vast amount from this experience.  For me it was an absolute pleasure to watch them and see their determination, skill and support for each other!

Year 8 Basketball Taster Session at Ferndown Upper School
Our Year 8s went over to Ferndown Upper for a taster session in basketball that was kindly hosted by Mr Hayter. The pupils all enjoyed working on their dribbling and shooting in the impressive basketball facilities that our neighbours have. In the end the pupils went into four teams in a friendly competition and I must say I was thoroughly impressed to watch their skills develop and improve as the evening went on. The pupils certainly enjoyed this fantastic opportunity and it was a pleasure to give up my evening for them.

Year 5 & 6 Swimming Gala
This was an enjoyable and exciting gala, with the chance for most of the swimmers to swim in multiple relays and different strokes. One purpose of this gala was to help schools pick their teams for the East Dorset competition taking place after Christmas. My thanks to all the team for their excellent effort, behaviour, and support of each other. Particular thanks go to Gemma and Zac for volunteering to take part at short notice, without any practice, so that we could enter all the events. Well done to the team who finished 3rd overall.
