The Music department has been busy all Autumn preparing for the two Christmas Concerts on the 9th and 17th December. The concerts are going to be filled with music from all around the word and will hopefully delight all listeners big and small. We have over 200 students participating in the performances giving all students opportunities to showcase their musical talents. Some of the groups that will be performing include Samba band, two choir, guitar group, steel band, orchestra and dancers! The concerts will be a great way to kick start Christmas!
A new addition to the music clubs will be THE UKULELE ORCHESTRA starting after Christmas on Wednesdays. The school was fortunate enough to be able to purchase a whole-class set of sparkly blue ukuleles that have really inspired our year 7 and 8 students in their music studies, so don’t be surprised if you get a request to buy a ukulele for a Christmas present!
Our steel band group rehearses after school on Mondays and are always in need for new members – especially parents and community members. This is a great way to enjoy music making with a fun Caribbean vibe. Also, we currently have vacancies for brass and flute students. Our fantastic peripatetic staff will help you discover the beautiful sound of the instrument in preparation for joining the school’s orchestra. Ferndown Middle firmly believes that instrumental studies support all academic subjects and adds a new dimension to learning. Please contact the school for more information.
