With the support of the Fire Service and the Urban Heath Partnership the Year 8 pupils have been shown the consequences of heath fires. The children have discussed the impact heathland fires have on the wildlife, the local residents and the person who set the fire. The pupils visited the heath, toured a fire engine and got to dress up as firefighters!
The pupils were then taught about fire safety in the home; including the importance of not over loading electrical sockets and the use of naked flames. Pupils were asked to think about making an escape plan for their home and agreeing a family meeting point in the event of a fire at home. This could save a life and would be a valuable task to discuss during the Easter holiday.
Our thanks goes to all the agencies who helped make this day such a success.
