December Sports Report - Interform Special

Posted on 18/12/2018

It has been an extremely busy yet successful start to the year in the PE department, with the launch of the daily mile and the football, rugby, netball and cross country competitions getting under way. In particular, the PE Department would like to say a huge well done to every single student who has committed their time to an extra-curricular sporting club this term.

Here at FMS, we are passionate about sport for all and encouraging our school community to become more physically active. It has been thrilling to see so many students dedicating their time to the vast array of sporting clubs on offer and enjoying being more physically active. We are proud of the inclusive approach our students have towards sport.

Whether your child enjoys Basketball, Dance, Netball, Invasion Games, Rocket Ball, Paralympic Sports, Petanque, Futsal, Badminton, Tennis, Football, Rugby, Cricket, Squash or Dodgeball; there really is something for everyone.

We look forward to a fresh start in the new year and the opportunity to burn off some of those delicious mince pies!

Interform
On Tuesday 18th December our first Interhouse Competition of the year took place. Students represented their tutor groups in Football, Benchball, Gymnastics/Dance or Orienteering. The competition was a huge success and each individual was a real credit to the school, demonstrating respect and fair play whilst also exhibiting real skill and determination. Well done to each and every child who took part, it was inspiring to see our school community working together and offering one another support and encouragement. The results will be announced in our end of term assembly on Friday!

Year 8 Netball
Well done to our year 8 netball team who played their first two games of the season on Thursday evening. The hosts, Parkstone Grammar, organised our first game against Cranborne Middle School. It was a very evenly fought match that ended 0-0. Our girls took confidence from this as they went into their second game against Swanage School. Again, both teams were very evenly matched, with the first half ending 0-0. Ferndown approached the second half with real determination and almost certainly had the better of the chances, finally breaking the deadlock to take a 1-0 lead. However, with just seconds to go, Swanage equalised to make it 1-1. A fantastic start to the season, well done to all of the girls involved!
