Year 8 Netball
On Thursday our year 8 netball team took part in the PEDSSA netball tournament at Parkstone Grammar School. 20 schools from across Poole and East Dorset competed for a coveted place in the upcoming County Tournament. In our pool, Ferndown faced Dumpton, St Michaels and Lytchett Minster.
It was a fantastic afternoon of netball in the winter sun, with Ferndown firstly playing against a very experienced Dumpton side. Dumpton were the victors on this occasion, but out girls were not deterred and approached their next game against St Michaels with renewed vigor. To their credit, the girls showed patience and skill, going on to win 3-0 giving them their first win of the tournament.
Finally, we faced Lytchett Minster in what was a closely fought and intense battle. Despite having much of the possession, our girls were narrowly beaten 1-3.
This was to be the final outing for our wonderful year 8 team who have continuously shown commitment and dedication to training throughout the season. Training continues after half term and we now look forward to the start of the year 7 league. Well done girls, you have truly done us proud.
Year 8 Rugby
Ferndown Middle School played their first game of rugby in three years against Allenbourn Middle School on Thursday evening. After a really successful unit of work that has seen the whole school participating in weekly rugby lessons, the year 8’s demonstrated all that they have learned in a really competitive fixture.
The boys showed great teamwork and discipline and were congratulated on their performance by the opposition. The fixture was played with exemplary sportsmanship and respect.
Mr Kinsey was exceptionally proud and pleased with the attitude and performance the boys demonstrated. Hopefully this is the start of a positive and exciting journey for rugby at FMS.
Year 5 and 6 Netball
On Thursday 7th February two teams made of of Year 5 and 6 girls attended a netball festival at Allenbourn Middle school. Despite it being a cold afternoon, the sun was shining and the girls spent the afternoon playing in a mixture of matches against several other schools. They all demonstrated a great team effort and positive attitude throughout. As this was a festival, there were no formal rankings afterwards but it was evident the girls had improved their skills and ability to work as a team – well done!
