On Thursday 26th January we welcomed the writing group from Ferndown and District U3A (University of the Third Age). They came to share their writing with an audience of Year 8 pupils. It was fantastic to hear such a variety of poems and short stories from adults who clearly love writing and they talked about their preferences and the writing process itself. The Year 8 pupils were keen to share their writing too, so another visit is planned for early in the summer term when they will have a chance to do so.
‘It was very interesting and has inspired me to write my own short stories.’ – Sophie & Harry

A Report from the U3A
On Thursday 26th January the U3A Creative Writing group took time out from their usual weekly class to visit Ferndown Middle School. We had been invited there to give a presentation of some of our work to a selected number of pupils who all had an interest in creative writing. Beforehand, I think we were all wondering how successful our attempt to close the generation gap might be, but we needn’t have worried because what we found was an enthusiastic, bright, intelligent group of students, who not only showed their appreciation of our efforts but were also very keen to share their thoughts and ideas about creative writing with us. At the end of the morning it was obvious that everyone had enjoyed the get together and I think a return visit is being planned.
