Mill on the Brue 2019

Posted on 10/06/2019

This is my second trip to Mill on the Brue, which is an outdoor activity centre in the heart of Somerset, and I am already looking forward to my third visit next year. The 25 acre estate provides the perfect location for FMS students to face challenges, build teamwork, establish new friendships and increase their awareness about environmental issues.

From the minute we arrived, a wonderful team of instructors were on hand to lead us through four action packed days of fantastic activities. Students are certainly fully exposed to the great outdoors, sleeping in traditional ridge tents and using the “No Poo Loo”. Although the wonderful location provides the setting, Mill on the Brue is really all about the activities. Students are certainly challenged all day long with activities ranging from canoeing, climbing, high wires to tunneling and many more. Teamwork is at the centre of everything and student’s skills are tested with raft building, crossing the river and the assault course. However, the most important challenge is to regain our “Zero Hero” status by leaving on Friday morning having generated zero food waste. Thankfully this was successfully achieved.

A special mention must be made to Mrs Melia, Miss Bickham and Mr Hammett. Their support, energy and enthusiasm throughout the week was tremendous.

If I had to sum up this year’s trip to Mill on the Brue in one word it would have to be the word AMAZING. Amazing weather, amazing challenges, amazing students and amazing FUN.

Thank you Squirrels, Hamsters, Chickens and Larmas for a simply AMAZING week.

Mr Kinsey
