Year 6 enjoyed a day with the science department at Ferndown Upper School. The enthusiastic scientists had an exciting opportunity to further enhance their knowledge and understanding of the study of biology. They had 3 sessions – Jonathans Jungle Roadshow, Heathland Ranger workshop and Entomology. The pupils experienced handling live animals including a giant millipede and a snake and they got close up to a Tarantula. They learnt about the importance of insects and used knowledge about their features to design and create a model their own insect. A heathland Ranger gave the pupils an opportunity to learn more about the importance of the heathland habitat and the pupils were able to classify living organisms and to observe preserved insects. The pupils particularly had fun handling the animals.
