January Sports Update #1

Year 7 Netball
On Tuesday afternoon our year 7 netball team competed in their first league games of the season. After beginning training in November the girls were eager to get their first game underway. They initially faced Purbeck School before going on to play against St Edward’s. Despite narrowly losing both of their games, the girls gained confidence and dramatically improved as time went on. At times, they were easily the better team and a little more practice should result in the chances they created being converted to goals. The girls should be extremely proud of their efforts. We wish them luck as the league continues next week.
Swimming Gala
On Wednesday afternoon a squad of 15 of our students competed in this years PEDSSA Swimming Gala at Canford School. Girls and boys from years 5 and 6 swam in a series of races against other local schools.
The races included individual breast stroke, freestyle, butterfly and back stroke events as well as a series of relays. Our students worked superbly as a team, supporting one another fiercely and demonstrating true grit and determination. Every single member of the team should be immensely proud of their performance on the day, particularly considering that for some individuals it was their first ever gala!
A special mention to Finley in year 5 who came 1st in his 25m butterfly event and to Gwen in year 6 who came 2nd in her 100m freestyle event. Finley will now be invited to represent East Dorset in the County Championship for which we wish him the very best of luck!
Ferndown Frenzy
We are delighted to say that the launch of the Ferndown Frenzy has been a huge success. With the field out of action for the winter months, the Frenzy has replaced the daily mile and involves all students and staff taking part in 10 minutes of physical activity per day. Each day every class takes part in one of five activities; including a shuttle run, plyometrics, lower body exercises, stretches and a continuous run. It has been inspiring to see everyone outside in the fresh air working hard to improve their overall fitness and health. Long may it continue!
