2022-2023 Trips
Year 5
12th – 14th June 2023 – Hengistbury Head
As part of Year 5’s learning on rivers in Term 3, we will be going to Hengistbury Head to complete a study of the river and surrounding area. The children will spend time mapping the river, learning how to draw a cross section of the river and calculate the speed of flow in different parts of the river. They will also catch and study the invertebrates which live there to assess the level of cleanliness of the water.
Year 6
17th – 19th July 2023 – Ancient Technology Centre
Year 6 children will be enjoying an exciting day of blacksmithing, archery, rope making, farming, construction and fire making at the Ancient Technology Centre in Wimborne. These activities are designed to support their curriculum work on Vikings and Saxons studied throughout Year 6.
Year 7
22nd – 23rd May 2023 – Butchers Coppice
This trip is a combination of the Year 7 careers programme as well as being given the opportunity to experience some activities like rock climbing, tomahawk throwing, bushcraft, archery, abseiling, and team building. Your son/daughter will hear about the instructor’s career and the path they took to get there. The focus is on showing pupils the variety of jobs available, highlighting skills that are valued in the workplace and the many ways a career can develop and change.
Year 8
17th – 19th July 2023 – Spinnaker Sailing Centre
Spinnaker Sailing Centre is a fantastic venue where the children will be able to participate in activities such as paddle boarding, kayaking, sailing, raft building and hopefully the giant paddleboard too. These activities are designed to build resilience, independence, team building and problem solving.
2023-2024 Residential Trips
Year 6
Year 6 are going to have the opportunity to have a 2-night residential at Hooke Court, a specialist educational residential centre based in West Dorset. There will be a wide range of exciting activities based around the curriculum the children will be studying in Science and History.
Year 7
Year 7 will have the opportunity of a 1-night residential in Butchers Coppice. This will be a great team building event where the children will be able to experience activities like rock climbing, tomahawk throwing, bushcraft, archery and abseiling whilst learning about the instructor’s career and the path they took to get there.
Year 8
Year 8 will have the opportunity to stay 2 nights at the exciting Active Nation, Woodmill. The children will be able to participate in activities such as paddle boarding, kayaking, sailing, raft building and many more. A great way to celebrate their last year at Ferndown Middle School.
