World Book Day 2020

Posted on 11/03/2020

We love reading! On Thursday 5th March our pupils enjoyed World Book Day through a variety of activities, which included dressing up as a character from a book, taking part in book-related quizzes and sharing favourite stories with others. Pupils were each given a book token which they can use in any participating shop.

What is World Book Day? World Book Day is a registered charity on a mission to give every child and young person a book of their own. It’s also a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it’s a celebration of reading.

Reading is an important focus at Ferndown Middle School and the children responded to World Book Day with enthusiasm. We saw some amazing costumes from both pupils and staff; look out for the photographs which will be on our website soon. Year 5 pupils each decorated a potato as a book character and there were some fantastic entries, which made it hard for staff to choose the winners from each class.

I didn’t think we could improve on the effort pupils put in for World Book Day last year, but I was proven wrong. There was a happy, positive buzz around school all day. Well done, everyone!
