The students have been working hard in both their Art and Design lessons.   We have been very impressed by the quality of work we have received.  As teacher’s we have thoroughly enjoyed setting these exciting projects and the outcomes have done the work proud.

Year 5 have had a different theme each week. We have had superhero week and pet week. It has been great to see Year 5 put so much time and effort into improving their drawing and modelling skills. They have shown great creativity and imagination.

Year 6 had the very exciting task of creating animal habitats, by looking at zoo architects and understanding the needs of their user, which in this case was an animal.  They analysed existing zoo design and created a fact file for an animal, which they then used to create a design for an animal enclosure.  Students then went on to make their enclosure out of card.  We have had some wonderfully original and exciting designs, which are well drawn and made.

Year 7 have been making planters and organisers from recycled products.  They researched the issues around recycling and the 6R’s, looking at how we can improve our recycling and use of materials.  We have loved the exciting products that have been sent to us.  Students generated random thoughts from research and then used existing shapes to form ideas.

Year 8 have been looking at Chinese New Year, starting with dragon dances and creating dragon heads from recycled products.   They have taken this further by creating Chinese animal applique patches.  Finally, students have planned a lesson for young primary school children on the Lantern festival and then created their own lanterns this week.  We have used artforkidshub.com in order to support students drawing dragons.
