World Book Day 2021 at FMS

Posted on 22/03/2021

World Book Day was a huge success this year! The staff were delighted to see that so many pupils chose to come in dressed as a book character or as something representing a book. The staff also looked amazing and photographic proof will shortly be available on the school website. The highlight of the day was Ferndown Middle School’s The Masked Reader, with masked characters including Giraffe, Spaniel, Feathers, The Beaked Wonder, Dragon, Catwoman, The Runaway Pea, Skeleton and Hepburn. Pupils enjoyed trying to identify the reader under their crazy masks!

All pupils have received a World Book Day Token which they can exchange in a bookstore for a free World Book Day book, or reduce the price of a book by £1. We watched MC Grammar’s World Book Day Song – look for him on YouTube – to see how many book references we could spot.

Other fun World Book Day activities included World Book Day Quizzes, Character Silhouettes, a Book Scavenger Hunt and Character Selfies.

For those thinking of their futures, there were clips on book-related careers, and these are included in the World Book Day PowerPoint, which is available on the school Website.

Finally, we are running a bookmark design competition. Pupils wishing to enter have until 1st April to submit their entries to their teacher. They must make sure they have their name and class written clearly on the back.

Oh, the places you’ll go.

Float away like paper dolls.

Reading is dreaming

With your eyes open.

It’s magical.                     (MC Grammar)

There are many more activities on the World Book Day website: www.worldbookday.com for you to peruse at your leisure.

Well done to all those who took part!
