We were fortunate to have Paul Stevens perform his anti-bullying play ‘ Telling A Tale’ to our Year 6 cohort. The play focused on the concepts surrounding individuality (being ourselves and accepting differences between ourselves and our peers) and how our actions have an impact on others (both negatively and positively).

Paul took on two personas – Lubly and Vic Tim – throughout the play and used flashbacks to allow pupils to discuss the significance of these ‘character’ choices.

As the play progressed, pupils realised that these two personas were anagrams/a play-on-words for ‘bully’ and ‘victim’. Upon learning this, pupils were able to reflect more deeply on how and why the personas behaved as they did.

The active participation levels ensured that pupils benefited from the anti-bullying play and could explore key themes within a safe environment. The play ended with pupils being encouraged to share one attribute about themselves which they liked, thus building individual self-esteem.
